It’s that time of year when folks are back in school — or just about to start up again. We’ve got tips for students, teachers, caregivers, and those who love to learn at the library on how to prep for fall!

Students

We have lots of resources to support students at the library. If the start of the school year is stressing you out, check out these tips to make your year easier.

Use the library with your student ID: K-12 students at public schools can access the library through Library Connect — just like a library card, but it’s already set up with your student number! You can check out stuff like books and movies, stream movies and listen to music online, and so much more.

Free online tutoring: Get K-12 support in language arts, math, science or social studies, with virtual tutoring sessions or from another online tutoring resource.

Use a computer: Did you know you can use computers at the library for four hours a day? Plus, you can print up to 100 black and white pages per day!

Exam prep: From the SAT to the GED — if you’re nervous about an upcoming exam, check out the practice tests and tutorials we offer through LearningExpress Library.

Applying for college? We’ve got your back. Get help with your college essay and explore online resources at the library!

Parents and caregivers

If you’re the parent or caregiver for a kid, we have resources to help support you and your child.

Learn what the library can do for your family: Our guide for parents and caregivers has important info for you to know about you and your kids at the library.

Helping a kid who’s learning to read? Check out these books for beginning readers. Make sure to explore the Welcome to Reading bags — along with 5 to 8 books in a bag, this comes with a guide to offer you some ideas to help support your kid’s reading journey.

Storytimes wherever you need them: Enjoy storytimes at every open library! We also have special online offerings

Take a breath in a sensory room: If you or your kid has sensory needs, make sure to check out and de-stress in the sensory rooms at Albina Library and Midland Library.

Pre-conference prep: Get ahead of the parent-teacher conference jitters with these tips for before, during and after the meeting.

Educators

We support educators at the library through different programs and resources. Let us help you help your students!

Access special educator perks: Did you know that you can get a library card just for educators? With your educator library card, you’ll get extra holds, longer loan times and more!

Request a booklist: If you’d like a custom booklist for an assignment, we’ve got you covered.

Use library resources for your class: Looking to add to what you use in the classroom when teaching? Explore our curriculum resources with booklists, book collections focusing on one topic and more.

Stay in the loop with the library: We offer a quarterly newsletter with resources for early childhood educators. If you’re not already subscribed, make sure to check it out!

Set your students up for library success: If you work in a qualifying school district, all of your students should have access to the library through a Library Connect account that’s already set up. Help show your students how to use Library Connect to enhance their educational journey.

Lifelong learners

You don’t have to be going to school to love learning! Have fun expanding your knowledge at the library this fall.

Want to study a new skill? You get free access to LinkedIn Learning through the library! Check out courses in business, technology, creative skills and more.

Ditch the Duolingo subscription: Learn a new language at the library for free with Mango Languages!

Learn more about your past: You can research your family and neighborhood’s history using library resources.

Get help changing careers:  If you’re thinking about changing careers, we’ve got your back. Check out our job help page for resources to help you update your resume, prep for interviews and more. Plus, don’t forget you can book a small conference room at the library with A/V to use for virtual interviews!

Individual and group tutoring: We offer tutoring for adults for folks looking to prep for the GED, learn English, practice reading, improve writing and math skills, and prepare for the citizenship exam. Check it out!

Wherever you’re at in your learning journey, we’re here for you at the library.
