Celebrate literacy with Día

Día de los Niños y Día de los Libros (Children’s Day and Book Day), often referred to as Día, is an annual library celebration of children, literacy, culture, family and multilingualism.

Throughout many countries in Latin America and in the world, Día de los Niños y Día de los Libros (Children’s Day and Books Day) are observed on two different dates. Combining these was the inspiration of author Pat Mora.

Libraries and literacy advocates in the United States quickly embraced the idea. Library Día celebrations were first held in a few cities in 1997. Now they are held nationwide at public libraries, schools, parks and more.

Multilingualism and literacy is at the heart of Multnomah County Library’s mission of empowering our community to learn and create. That’s why each year, the library celebrates Día with special events, crafts, book displays and reading recommendations.
