Top 5 teen activities for summer

School is out, and it’s time to soak up the summer at Multnomah County Library. Whether you already have plans this season or not, you’re sure to find something you can participate in at your library.

1. Track your Summer Reading on Beanstack

   For every 15 days you read or participate in a summer learning activity, you can win prizes or enter raffles. Plus, have the exclusive opportunity to be entered into the Grand Prize drawing once you complete 45 days and turn in a completed finisher form. This year’s theme is Read, Renew, Repeat.

2. Become a certified babysitter

   Safety Side Up’s day-long training will help increase your confidence and give you the skills you need to be the best babysitter possible. Courses are being held at various library locations and lunch is provided. 

3. Try your hand at comics

   Comics have a long history in storytelling. They can also be a tool for advocacy and bring positive change to the world. Join Breena Bard, Oregon Book Award-winning cartoonist, in workshops demonstrating the basics of making comics. 

4. Explore college resources

   You don’t have to know what you want to study to take practice tests like the ACT and the SAT. You can start learning about and preparing for your academic future today! Investigate schools you’re interested in and research financial aid options. 

5. Learn something new at the Rockwood makerspace

   Gain real-life tech, design, and engineering skills through hands-on labs, workshops, and camps. Use a 3D printer, make vinyl stickers, play with electronics and so much more. 

Bonus activity! Visit a new library. Don’t let location limit you — you can find libraries in neighborhoods across the county. TriMet transit can get you where you need to go.
