Celebrate the Lunar New Year with Multnomah County Library! Join us for springtime fun such as calligraphy, singing and dancing, and more.

Join us in the makerspace to welcome 2025, the year of the Snake! This afternoon, we will offer special Lunar New Year crafts that celebrate and highlight the diversity of our community. Supplies will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. All are welcome!

Children in fifth grade or younger must be accompanied by an attentive adult or teen.

Get ready for Lunar New Year! Join us at the Midland Library to craft your own lion dance head - we'll supply all the necessary crafting materials. You can join the White Lotus lion dance team and celebrate with your new creation on Sunday, February 2nd!

This New Year, celebrate by making your own sticker, t-shirt or bag design. Learn how to use a Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutting machine and a heat press to print your favorite New Year patterns. Other creative materials and 3D pens will also available.

Celebrate the beautiful geometric designs for Black History Month. Children will learn about the meaning and folktale origins of this amazing and vibrant textile. Getting to design their own with block motif stamps with traditional paint colors and dyes. Participants will get to take home their one of a kind tote bag at the end of the event as well as a Black History Month swag.

Portland’s favorite clown is back with a storytime that is a culturally creative blend of picture books infused with sounds and activities for all.

Participation is encouraged, and all ages are welcome!

This dance group, formed in 1995 at Oregon State University, will share some of the drum and dance traditions of indigenous Mexica. 

Join Portland Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry for a broom making craft. We’ll create beautiful hand brooms using foraged tree materials – willow, magnolia, cypress, oak, camellia, and more. We can channel the matchless Zora Neale Hurston, who wrote: "The thing to do is to grab the broom of anger and drive off the beast of fear."

Stones, Bones and Blacked-Eyed Peas presents: Family recipes, a seat at our family table, and the importance of Sunday dinner in the African American community. Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events and Catering, Michelle Guinn, along with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history.

Cooper Nez represents the next generation of Indigenous hoop dancers. Cooper Nez is Irish and Diné (Kinłichii’nii, born for the Redhouse clan). He resides in Mesa, AZ and is from Kayenta, AZ, near the foothills of Black Mesa. Cooper the Hooper has been dancing for two years and enjoys dancing for family and the community.

Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events and Catering, Michelle Guinn, along with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history. Enjoy a cooking demonstration using traditional foods and recipes cooked by African Americans from the time of slavery, and explore their many modern interpretations.

Enjoy traditional music from many regions of China with The Orchid Trio, a string trio with violinist Siying Ge, violist Deborah Shuster, and cellist Quinn Liu.
