Play and learning go hand in hand. While our storytimes are on break, join other Rainbow families in a fun playtime at the library with books, toys, music, and all the room you need to learn through play in a positive, affirming environment. As Mr. Rogers said, "... for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

Children from birth to age 6 (with a favorite adult) enjoy books, songs, rhymes and movement activities while building language and literacy skills. Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

Join us for a fun and imaginative LEGO building session. We'll provide the building blocks, you bring the creativity! Ideal for grades K-5, but younger and older siblings are welcome.

Central Library, beloved by the community since 1913, is now open with modern enhancements for you to enjoy!  

Join us for a 45 minutes walking tour through the building.  No registration required. 

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Dove Lewis Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams, Paws for Love, and Pet Partners®.

Families with children 0-6, you’re invited for an active half-hour of singing, dancing, and stories in English and Spanish. Attendance is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Experience a mesmerizing performance of buraanbur, a Somali form of dance, music, and poetry performed by and for women. Come learn about beautiful buraanbur and Somali culture, from the local artist and educator, Amina Abdirahman. This event will be in Soomalli and English. It is appropriate for women.

Ofrecemos actividades que promueven la alfabetización temprana, leyendo libros, cantando, jugando y haciendo manualidades. Los padres, hermanos mayores de 6 años y cuidadores son bienvenidos. Este programa se presenta en español. La asistencia es limitada y está disponible por orden de llegada.

Coma mas saludable incorporando a su dieta diferentes ensaladas. Aprenda dos nuevas recetas, primero haciendo una ensalada de Aguacate maiz y palmito de Mexico (Mexican Avocado, corn and hearts of palm salad), y luego una ensalada Peruana de quinoa y coliflor con aderezo de cilantro y limon (Quinoa and cauliflower salad with spicy cilantro and lime dressing).

Come meet some adorable goats at your library! In this informal experience, Kat from Goat it! will be sharing fun goat facts.

Kids will love making noise with Kids Junk Orchestra! Through the use of non-conventional items such as buckets and recycled items, youth learn how to create various sounds and rhythms. This class focuses on group cooperation, basic rhythm drumming skills, team building, specialized drumming instruction and a safe environment to perform musically.
