- Did my house have a garage when it was built in the early 1900s?
- Was there a movie theater in my neighborhood in the 1920s?
- I’ve heard that some of the streets in my city had their names changed; what were the old names?
Historical maps from the Sanborn fire insurance map company from 1867 to 1970 that show details of buildings (including construction materials, use of buildings, and name of owners), streets, lot lines, and neighborhood infrastructure like roads and water mains are included. Because the maps were published at different times, each one shows a snapshot of the neighborhood in a different historical era. Maps of hundreds of Oregon towns and cities are included.
This online collection is in black and white only (the original Sanborn maps were printed in color), so some details from the original historical maps do not show.
