New Northwest Library opens January 10 with ribbon cutting ceremony

PORTLAND, Ore. — December 29, 2025 — Multnomah County Library will receive a $40,000 gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York, the foundation established by Andrew Carnegie. The award is part of Carnegie Libraries 250, a special initiative celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and honoring the roughly 1,280 Carnegie Libraries still serving their communities across the United States.

PORTLAND, Ore. — December 23, 2025 — Multnomah County Library staff members have shared their picks for 2025’s best books, and the library is sharing what’s been most popular with patrons this year. The library also has compiled its most checked out books of 2025, tallying both physical titles and digital ones (e-books and audiobooks). These are the library’s top-circulating books, by format and genre, through December 1, 2025.

Sellwood-Moreland Library will close to the public starting January 3, 2026 to install brand-new LED lighting, doors and door operators. Sellwood-Moreland's last day open to the public before construction is January 2. The construction will last through January 9, then the library will reopen to the public on January 10.

Multnomah County Library (MCL) and the Portland Street Art Alliance (PSAA) are expanding their efforts to bring community-centered artwork to libraries throughout Multnomah County. At Hollywood Library, artist Kyler Martz will reimagine the theme of the Beverly Cleary street map and create new artwork that will be an homage to Beverly Cleary and the library’s place in her world.

Northwest Library’s Thurman Street location closing November 25 to begin move out process

PORTLAND, Ore––October 29, 2025
Northwest Library is moving from a leased space at 2300 NW Thurman St. to a new library-owned location at 2030 NW Pettygrove St. In order to move books, furniture and other materials out of the leased space on NW Thurman Street, Northwest Library will close to the public on November 25, 2025. The last day open to the public will be November 24.
