New East County Library opens May 16 with ribbon cutting ceremony

   Community celebrations follow May 16-17 with music, crafts and fun; photos and B-roll footage available of new East County Library

PORTLAND, Ore.--May 15, 2026

Multnomah County Library is excited to celebrate the grand opening of East County Library with two days of activities for the community and you’re invited. These events will run from Saturday, May 16 to Sunday, May 17 beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 16.

Where: East County Library (475 NW Division St., Gresham, OR 97030)

Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson will take part in East County Library’s ribbon cutting ceremony along with District 4 Commissioner Vince Jones-Dixon; Director of Libraries Annie Lewis; Department of County Assets Director Tracey Massey; TriMet General Manager Sam Desue, Jr.; City of Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall; Carlos Hernandez, Family Engagement Coordinator for El Programa Hispano Católico; and Terry Wattley, Community Engagement Manager for Black Economic Collective.

Following the remarks and ribbon cutting, community celebrations will begin with a performance by Mariachi Viva Mexico, followed by crafts, family fun, music and more.

The opening weekend celebrations, and East County Library’s early learning playspace, creative learning room, AV studio, teen room, outdoor children’s area, are all made possible by generous gifts to The Library Foundation. The Friends of the Library also generously supported the development of East County Library.
