Kids will love making noise with Kids Junk Orchestra! Through the use of non-conventional items such as buckets and recycled items, youth learn how to create various sounds and rhythms. This class focuses on group cooperation, basic rhythm drumming skills, team building, specialized drumming instruction and a safe environment to perform musically. Wendy and DB have pioneered a blues inspired space in children’s music.  Through folklore, stories and song, they explore themes of freedom, love, self worth, creativity and curiosity.  Wendy and DB use their voices, ukulele, percussion and guitars to bring high-energy music to every performance! Space is limited.

The Oregon Symphony is on the road for interactive, musical storytimes. Each week features a visit from an Oregon Symphony musician who will play and provide an introduction to their instrument and orchestral music.

Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

Two talented Indigenous hoop dancers will share their culture and skills through the art of hoop dance, followed by a Q & A session. Hoop dancing originated as a healing ceremony and continues to be practiced and shared as a form of Indigenous tradition, artistic expression and cultural sharing opportunity. Hoops are utilized to make formations that honor various animals and nature, as well as new and creative designs. Family friendly event and safe cultural space.  
 
Eric Hernandez has performed around the world in Cirque du Soleil's TOTEM and in many other venues. Eric says, "As a Native hoop dancer, I am passionate about sharing my culture and art form with the world. I am a member of the Lumbee tribe and have been performing and teaching hoop dancing for several years. Hoop dancing is not just a performance, but a way to connect with the natural world and honor the traditions of my ancestors. Through my performances, I hope to inspire and educate others about the rich cultural heritage of Native Americans."
 
Cooper Nez, age 10, represents the next generation of Indigenous hoop dancers. Cooper is Irish and Diné (Kinłichii’nii, born for the Redhouse clan). He resides in Mesa, AZ and is from Kayenta, AZ, near the foothills of Black Mesa. Cooper has been hoop dancing for almost two years and enjoys being able to share his culture through the storytelling of hoop dance. Cooper is excited to dance alongside one of his hoop dance heroes, Eric Hernandez.  

Please join us at the new Holgate Library for the ribbon cutting and Lion / Dragon dance to open the first new building of the library building project! Follow the dancers through the building to ensure good luck and fortune, and stay for the day-long celebration. 

The Mulan Drum Team is an all-women drumming group comprised of community members from diverse backgrounds. The sound of their drums is entrancing, powerful, and impactful, echoing the beauty and strength of Chinese women and contributing to the celebration of Chinese culture in our community. The Jade Dance Team was founded by a group of high school students. They will share beautiful, graceful Chinese dances in traditional costumes. 

Enjoy traditional Vietnamese music with David Dahl.
