Juneteenth: Freedom Libraries, A Racial Justice Sit-In

Wed Jun 25
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

On Sunday, June 24, the governing Council of American Library Association (ALA) passed a historic resolution that “apologizes to African Americans for wrongs committed against them in segregated public libraries.” In honor of this moment, the Hillsdale Library will have a Library Sit-In. Let’s find strength in each other - join us for a Library Sit-In. In this program attendees will read letters, speeches, and correspondences from African-American Activists from past to present. Attendees will then discuss which letter, speech or correspondence connected with them the most. Afterwards, attendees will be given special linen stationery paper to write their own letters of activism or reflections on social and racial justice, which we will then reflect on as a group. All materials will be provided.
