You can check out a free laptop for in-library use at one of our laptop kiosks, available at select locations. The laptops offer access to the internet for research, work and entertainment.

These kiosks provide a simple self-service way for you to check out a Chromebook or Windows laptop for use inside the library. The touchscreen user interface is available in three languages (English, Chinese and Spanish). Find these laptop lending kiosks in the new and renovated library buildings.

- East County Library (scheduled to open spring 2026)
- Northwest Library (scheduled to reopen winter 2025/2026)
- St. Johns Library (scheduled to reopen spring/summer 2026)
How to use the laptop lending kiosks:
- Visit one of our libraries with a laptop kiosk
- Have your library card handy and go to the kiosk to check out a device!
- When checking out a:
- Chromebook, click the "MCL Guest" button on the lock screen.
- Windows laptop, use your library card number to sign in.
- Use the laptop for up to two hours per day
Please note:
- Laptop kiosks are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Patrons may not reserve laptop kiosks in advance.
- Patrons under 13 can not check out a laptop from a kiosk.
- Printing is available on both the Chromebooks and Windows laptops. The Windows laptops print to the same print release queue as the desktop public access computers. Patrons need to use mobile printing on the Chromebooks.
- Food and drinks are not allowed near the laptop kiosks.
- Patrons are responsible for the security of their belongings while using the laptop kiosks.
