Multnomah County Library’s adult literacy programs help adult learners achieve their goals. You can improve your reading skills, access citizenship classes, GED tutoring and tutoring for vocational studies, English language classes and more.

Citizenship
- Get started on your journey to citizenship with classes and tutoring at the library.
- Prepare for your citizenship interview.
Get your GED
- The library offers free tutoring, study materials and help paying for GED tests so that you can get your General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
- In this program, you can connect with a volunteer for a one on one personalized experience. These are not classes, no registration is required.
- Prepare for the GED in English or Spanish, including math, language arts, science and social studies.
- Each drop-in session has between five and ten volunteer tutors with a variety of skills.
Learn English
- Study with a tutor and gather for conversational practice. You can even learn on your phone. Check out the library's books and other material.
- English (ESOL) classes are provided by two organizations People-Places-Things and Goodwill.
Tutoring for adult learners
- For adults who have difficulties with reading, learn and practice reading.
- The library offers one-on-one and small group tutoring.
- Prepare for the GED in English or Spanish, including math, language arts, science and social studies.
- Learn English, including reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Improve skills in writing and math for daily life.
- Prepare for the citizenship exam.
