Graphic Novel Club grades 6-8

Tue Feb 20
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Gresham Library

Middle school students are invited to talk about comics and eat snacks! Every meeting includes a short activity related to this month's book. A limited number of books are available for pick up at the library.

Our book this month, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki (anime director of Spirited Away, Ponyo, The Boy and the Heron) is about a warrior princess named Nausicaä, with a strong connection to nature, in a world where nature is slowly reclaiming the planet. So we’re making mini-terrariums with moss and decorative toy mushrooms to reflect the healing power of nature!

When the going gets tough, the tough get going, right? How can you get yourself going again after hard times? Humor couldn't hurt.

Author Rob Osler coined the word quozy to be a blend of cozy mysteries with LGBTQ+ characters.

Spring is here! Library staff share how they connect to nature

April is a month full of nature! It’s Native Plant Appreciation month, Plant Appreciation Day is on April 13 and Earth Day is April 22. This month, we asked our staff of color and culture how they connect with nature, plants, gardening and books.

Suggestions for your 'read historical fiction' activity as you play Read 4 Life 2020, the library's adult summer reading game.

These audiobooks, some of them available in downloadable audio and others as audio CDs, feature First Nations, Indigenous, Native American, Indian and Alaska Native readers.
