Hip-Hop A Performance and History

Join us for a special performance by Mic Crenshaw, Toni Hill, and their live band The True Originals. Be part of a discussion of Hip-Hop history and how it has influenced our lives and our culture. Maybe even come take the stage and rap a few bars.

Mic Crenshaw is a world-class Hip-Hop and spoken word artist who has toured extensively in Africa, the U.S and Europe. He has a deep knowledge of the history of Hip-Hop both nationally and locally.

Black Superheroes make the world a better place for everyone, so join us for a fun afternoon of crafting in your favorite superhero costume! In this Black Superheroes Craft Fair, we will have superhero button making and cape and mask decorating. Then try out the laser maze and take a picture at our superhero photobooth!

Cosplay Armsock Crafting with Black Bettie & Azimedes

Calling all Teens in grades 6-12! Want to level up your costume with fake tattoos or body paint, but don't want to get messy? Join us for a crafty afternoon to make your own cosplay arm sock. This workshop is presented by our friends Black Bettie Cosplay and Azimedes Cosplay, who have loads of experience in crafting their own costumes using fabrics, stenciling, heat transfer vinyl, and all sorts of other DIY fun.

Registration opens June 4th.

Juneteenth at Midland

Join us for a Juneteenth celebration at Midland Library! The theme of the day will be plants, nature, and Black liberation. 

Portland Parks & Recreation's Urban Forestry will take the whole family on a journey into our urban forest. Celebrate our roots and how greatly we have grown together. Come sing, read, and create art inspired by Black freedom and beautiful trees! 

Afterwards, we'll be planting seeds and learning about plant growth with Black Futures Farm. While planting, we'll discuss Black agriculture, liberation, and the history of Juneteenth. For adults and teens.

Vanport: A Community on The Move

Join the historians from Oregon Black Pioneers to learn about the community of Vanport, a city that build the ships for World War II. Once the second-largest city in Oregon with a thriving Black community, it was washed away in the Memorial Day flood of 1948.
