Is your library closed for renovations? You can pick up holds at another location! When a library closes, the holds that patrons have placed with that library as the pickup location are paused. This means those holds will not be fulfilled, but they will continue to move up the waitlist. If you want to change where you pick up your holds, you can update your account online or contact the library.
To update your default settings for picking up future holds:
- Log into your My MCL account.
- In the top right corner, click the down arrow next to your username.
- Click on My Settings.
- Under Account Preferences, click on Holds and Pickup Location.
- Under First, click the down arrow in the box and choose another hold pickup library.
- Click on the Save Changes button.
To update the pickup location for your current holds:
- Log into your My MCL account.
- In the top right corner, click the down arrow next to your username.
- Click on the link labeled On Hold.
- On the item you want to change your hold pickup location for, then click the down arrow next to the selected hold pickup library.
- Choose another hold pickup library.
To resume a hold:
- Log into your My MCL account.
- In the top right corner, click the down arrow next to your username.
- Click on the link labeled On Hold.
- Click on the red Resume Hold button for each hold you want to activate.
We’re expanding and improving your library spaces as part of the voter-approved 2020 library capital bond. If you’re curious why multiple libraries are closed at the same time, it’s because we want to protect your investment. The terms of the bond require the library to spend most of the funds in a short amount of time. A slower schedule would mean less money for improvements and increased costs due to inflation and supply chain issues. You can learn more at “Construction underway! Why multiple libraries closed at the same time.”
Check the temporary library services page for full, up-to-date information on library services available during construction closures.
