Get into the Game Industry when you feel like an Outsider

Sat Mar 2
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Central Library

There are plenty of BIPOC and women/female-identifying creators doing innovative work in video games, yet this multi-billion dollar industry is notorious for being dominated by white male perspectives. Panelists Anthony Sims, Daniel H. Wilson, and Laura Hudson will discuss their experiences in the industry, how they relate in a field where they rarely see themselves represented, and which trends in the gaming world give them hope.

Black History Month: Hip-Hop, Beyond Beats and Rhymes

Tue Feb 27
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
St. Johns Library

Join us for a Kanopy film screening! HIP HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES provides a riveting examination of manhood, sexism, and homophobia in hip-hop culture. Director Byron Hurt, former star college quarterback, long-time hip-hop fan, and gender violence prevention educator, conceived the documentary as a "loving critique" of a number of disturbing trends in the world of rap music. He pays tribute to hip-hop while challenging the rap music industry to take responsibility for glamorising destructive, deeply conservative stereotypes of manhood.

First come, first served.
