Welcome to an exciting journey into the vibrant world of Nico, the banana slug, and his adventure in Forest Park! In this interactive program, children will not only immerse themselves in the charming story of Nico written by Joeanally Gonzalez but also bring the characters to life
through a creative puppet workshop. We will talk about Forest Park's ecosystem and the importance of taking care of it.

Learn techniques for creating different styles of head wrapping with Shalonda Menefee of SISTAS Empowerment! Please bring your own head wrap if you have one. Fabric will also be provided for practice.

Newel Briggs sings folk songs accompanied by his guitar, mandolin and banjo. Raised by his grandparents, the first people in his family to be born free, Newel’s grandma sang songs such as “Loop de Loo,” “Miss Mary Mac,” “Ham Bone” and “Shortnin’ Bread.” Learn about the history behind the songs and the evolution of African American music through his stories.

Join us for a special Black Family Storytime celebrating Juneteenth and Black resilience! The African and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their adult). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Attendance is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Grades 6-12. Presenters Maz and Attero have been 3D designing and printing since 2014. They run an Etsy shop and have led workshops for all ages in schools and libraries. They will be patient and do their best to help you learn.

Rockwood Makerspace programming is made possible by gifts to The Library Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting Multnomah County Library’s innovative and groundbreaking work.
