Newel Briggs sings folk songs accompanied by his guitar, mandolin and banjo. Raised by his grandparents, the first people in his family to be born free, Newel’s grandma sang songs such as “Loop de Loo,” “Miss Mary Mac,” “Ham Bone” and “Shortnin’ Bread.” Learn about the history behind the songs and the evolution of African American music through his stories.

Join us for a special Black Family Storytime celebrating Juneteenth and Black resilience! The African and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their adult). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Attendance is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

What will happen next is hard to say, as Mz. Pearl astounds the audience with her circus skills and comic antics. What objects can the circus renew? What lines can the audience repeat? And how much fun can we have with books! The show finishes with the audience being "on stage" with Mz. Pearl performing clown and circus acts! 

Looking to hone your birding skills? Want to learn ways to attract more birds to your outdoor space? Join Nature Nerd Expeditions for an afternoon with the birds. In this adult birding class you will learn I.D. tips and tricks that'll help you identify a bird faster and more accurately. You will also learn some basic landscaping and feeding tips that'll help you attract more bird species to your outdoor space. Bring a notebook and binoculars if you have them.

If possible, we will be spending a portion of the class practicing our birding skills in a neighboring city park.
