Central Library, beloved by the community since 1913, is now open with modern enhancements for you to enjoy!

Join us for a 45 minutes walking tour through the building.  No registration required.

Children from birth to age 6 (with a favorite adult) enjoy books, songs, rhymes and movement activities while building language and literacy skills. Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

Portland Insectarium is the city's first museum and zoo dedicated entirely to bugs! In this program there will be a selection of live bugs on display, such as tarantulas, mantises, and scorpions! Some are touchable bugs (roaches, isopods, millipedes), others preserved insect displays. Toys and other activities will be there to explore, plus experts to answer any questions! Suitable for all ages.

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Dove Lewis Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams and Pet Partners®. For kids and teens. Call 503.988.5123 to register.

Come sing, listen, learn and celebrate. Join Karen Kitchen (Osage Nation) for this in person story hour featuring songs and books from Native cultures. Children, families, elders, aunties and uncles — everyone is welcome.

Practice your new reading skills! Each week you'll listen to a story, practice reading with a teen volunteer. This program is especially for kindergartners to second graders. Register here.

An Elf, a Dwarf and a musical Bard go into a bar looking for adventure. After helping the Inn keeper get his stinky cheese back from a giant rat, they hear of treasure to be found in a dangerous dungeon. The audience participates in their decisions as the monsters and goblins and make their way to the BOSS MONSTER. Will the party meet the Owl-Bear or the Bear-Owl? The Dragon or The Treasure?
