Every Child A Reader builds on the American Library Association's Every Child Ready to Read® @ your library® initiative. This program helps families prepare their children to read by doing five daily practices: reading, talking, singing, writing and playing.
The library works with special community partners, such as the Nurse-Family Partnership, Head Start, Oregon Child Development Coalition, Multnomah Early Childhood Program and others. Librarians share fun, interactive reading techniques with caregivers and supply new books for children to read.
This program is funded by The Library Foundation and accessible to eligible partners by invitation only. Email ECAR@multcolib.org for more information.

Presentations
Every Child A Reader literacy presentations are one-hour sessions delivered by experienced librarians to educators or caregivers. The presentations include:
- Information about early childhood development
- Read aloud strategies
- Five early literacy practices
- Library services and resources
Literacy presentations are offered in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Russian.
The program also offers two-hour socialization events at the library. These sessions are for caregivers and children. They include a storytime and information about library resources and the five early literacy practices.
