The library’s digital archive includes many historical maps of places in and near Portland. To search for maps of a specific place try this tip: go to the search bar and type the name of the place you’re interested in, plus the words “AND map” (make sure that “AND” is in all caps) For example, for maps of Portland’s Albina district and maps of the former city of Albina, search for Albina AND map.

These atlases show historical lot lines and street names. For some large lots, property owners’ names are noted. The library has Metsker atlases from 1927, 1936 and 1944, as well as atlases for Clackamas, Washington and all 36 Oregon counties.

To use this book, you'll need to know a property's legal description — the name of the addition or subdivision and the block and lot numbers.
