This class introduces the concept of poetry and writing with La Toya A. Hampton, aka The Poet Lady Rose, by using stories, music, and activities. Exploring themes such as growing up, self-esteem, feelings, and friendship together makes this a perfect class to meet new friends! The best age groups for this event are from Kindergarten to 2nd grade, or kids 5 to 7 years old.

Stones, Bones and Blacked-Eyed Peas presents: The historical and cultural significance of black eyed peas. Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events and Catering, Michelle Guinn, along with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history. Enjoy a cooking demonstration using traditional foods and recipes cooked by African Americans from the time of slavery, and explore their many modern interpretations.

Vanport: A Community on The Move

Join the historians from Oregon Black Pioneers to learn about the community of Vanport, a city that build the ships for World War II. Once the second-largest city in Oregon with a thriving Black community, it was washed away in the Memorial Day flood of 1948.
