Belmont Library opens August 15 with ribbon cutting ceremony

Community celebrations follow August 15-16 with music, art and family fun; photos and B-roll footage available of transformed Belmont Library

PORTLAND, Ore.--August 14, 2026

Multnomah County Library is excited to celebrate the grand opening of Belmont Library with two days of activities for the community and you’re invited. These events will run from Saturday, August 15 through Sunday, August 16, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Ribbon cutting ceremony 

What: Belmont Library ribbon cutting ceremony as part of Multnomah County Library Capital Building Projects, brief remarks and photo opportunity

When: Saturday, August 15, 9:30-10 am

Where: Belmont Library (1038 SE César E. Chávez Blvd., Portland, OR 97214)

There will be limited parking available at the neighboring Walgreens parking lot for opening weekend only. Patrons can look for the designated parking area in the southwest corner. 

Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson will take part in Belmont Library’s ribbon cutting ceremony along with District 3 Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards; Director of Libraries Annie Lewis; Director of the Department of County Assets Tracey Massey; and Maryam Tahririha, arts administrator and selection committee member of the Belmont art panels.

Following the remarks and ribbon cutting, community celebrations will begin with a performance by Maeve Stier, a soprano and accordionist, followed by dancing, family fun, and more.

Gifts to The Library Foundation supported the creation of an interactive early learning space, a teen room for students to gather and study, and mobile creative learning lab at Belmont Library.
