Come visit the library for a Kwanzaa drumming circle experience!

The African and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their favorite adult/family members). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement activities in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten. Attendance is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Discover the untold legacy of ten groundbreaking Black guitarists who shaped the sound of modern rock and metal from Sister Rosetta Tharpe to Tom Morello. There will be both powerful, kid-friendly stories that highlight each guitarist’s cultural and musical impact, as well as a high-energy instrumental concert inspired by the legacy of Black rock and metal.

Let’s make some beautiful papercutting to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Stones, Bones and Blacked-Eyed Peas presents: The historical and cultural significance of black eyed peas. Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events & Catering, Michelle Guinn, along with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history. Enjoy a cooking demonstration using traditional foods and recipes cooked by African Americans from the time of slavery, and explore their many modern interpretations.

Rock out to a high-energy instrumental concert, inspired by the legacy of Black rock and metal. Hear stories about Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Tom Morello and others who shaped the sound of modern rock and metal.

Join Brian Parham of Rock Dojo as he inspires the next generation of guitar heroes.

Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events and Catering, Michelle Guinn, along with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history.

Experience a mesmerizing performance of buraanbur, a Somali form of dance, music, and poetry performed by and for women. Come learn about beautiful buraanbur and Somali culture, from the local artist and educator, Amina Abdirahman. This event will be in Soomalli and English. It is appropriate for women.

Join us for Positive Kids Yoga Time with Ms. Lai! This session will share some of the cultural significance and traditions of the Lunar New Year. Kids will explore simple yoga poses and mindful breathing exercises with engaging stories, rhymes, and songs.

This program is intended for children ages 2 to 10 years old and their grownups.

Join us for our Lunar New Year celebration at Midland Library! Enjoy lion dance from the White Lotus team, be in awe of the art of Wushu from Summit Wushu Academy, do crafts and more!
