November is Native American Heritage Month. Join the library in honoring the rich traditions and culture of Native Americans, Alaska Natives, Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), and the many other Indigenous peoples of the Americas.
“The Indigenous team at the library is working hard to not just decolonize, but to Indigenize spaces. What this means is advocating for Native art, materials, guest speakers and leaders to fill our library spaces,” says Eva Red Bird, Multnomah County Library’s Indigenous community services coordinator. “Every member of the team provides incredible insight, advice and knowledge to our community. You'll often see them at powwows and community events.”
“We are continuing to build trust with the Native community and the library. We want Native folks to feel welcome in library spaces. It is an honor to be part of this incredible team. We are excited about the future and hope to continue to build on the relationships that are already in place with our Native community,” says Red Bird.
