First opened on February 23, 1966, Gregory Heights library serves community members in Northeast Portland. The original architects were Farnham and Peck, A.I.A. The library is 5,997 square feet.
The library received capitol bond improvements in 2023, opening in 2024 with new furniture, carpet and paint, lower shelf heights, and automated Materials Handling technology.
Milestones
2024 The library opened to the public on January 4, 2024.
2023 Gregory Heights closed to the public on July 20, 2023, to undertake the bond and capital funded improvements.
2020 In November 2020, Multnomah County voters approved a $387 million capital bond to build and transform library buildings across the county. Gregory Heights Library was one of 11 libraries set to receive upgrades and not undergoing major renovations.
1999 The newly renovated building reopened on March 2.
1998 Gregory Heights closed for renovations.
1966 Gregory Heights Library was dedicated on February 24, at its current location. The building could seat 40 readers and featured a collection of 10,000 books.
1956 The Gregory Heights reading room closed, transferring its service to a bookmobile that could better serve the area. Meanwhile, plans began for a permanent location on Sandy Boulevard.
1938 A small reading room opened at 3448 NE 72nd Ave.
