Family Storytime
Children from birth to age 6 (with a favorite adult) enjoy books, songs, rhymes and movement activities while building language and literacy skills. After storytime, families are invited to stay for social time with a craft activity or toys.
Please note: for health and safety reasons, maximum room capacity is 30 people. Please stay home if anyone in your family is sick.
Multnomah County Library storytimes are supported by gifts made to The Library Foundation.
Attendance is limited to first come, first served.
Black Resource Collection is a cultural collection offering a variety of materials that are primarily written by African Diasporic authors.
Kenton Library history
The Kenton Library building, originally Cyril S. Kenyon Hardware, was constructed in 1951. The library leased the 6,000 sq ft space and began to serve the North Portland neighborhood in March 2010.
Craft Circle: Textile Mending
This week's Craft Circle will focus on Textile Mending. Bring in those socks you've been meaning to darn, your favorite worn jeans for patching or that shirt that's just missing a button.
We'll have some supplies and books on hand to help you get started.

Laolao's Dumplings Author Visit and Craft
Join Oregon Book Award-winning author Dane Liu for the release of her new picture book Laolao’s Dumplings, which Publishers Weekly called a “moving tale of intergenerational and community bonds” in a starred review. Dane will read aloud, answer your questions, and together we will make our wishes for the new year and wrap them into dumpling ornaments. For ages 4-9. Each family will receive a free copy of Laolao's Dumplings. Free tickets available 30 minutes in advance.
Library teams bring Native author to local teens & families
Multnomah County Library's Indigenous and teen services teams will welcome acclaimed Native author Cynthia Leitich Smith (Mvskoke) to two high schools.
Hillsdale Library history
Though not officially named “Hillsdale” until the 1980s, the Southwest Portland neighborhood library had been serving residents in the area for decades prior. The current building holds LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification, with some of the materials coming from local manufacturers. The building was designed by Thomas Hacker and Associates Architects, Inc.
Holgate Library history
Add summaryHolgate Library opened in its current location in 1971, replacing the Arleta and Lents branch libraries, which had been serving this region of Southeast Portland since the early 1900s. The library was renovated in 2000. In 2020, Multnomah County voters approved a capitol bond project to build and modernize library buildings. Holgate Library is being rebuilt on its current site. The new Holgate Library will reopen in 2024.
