Join us for a special program commemorating Juneteenth, where we'll explore the history of our heritage through the art of collage. Through the creative process, we'll reflect on the many instances through American history where Black people fought for the rights, justice and freedoms that many Americans enjoy today but that are still often denied to the majority of Black Americans .
Bigfoot Poetry Festival Open Mics- Queer Poets
Come share your voice!
The Bigfoot Poetry Festival is a three-day poetry event that happens in early summer in downtown Portland. Poetry open mics, writing and performance workshops, poet showcases, an artists market, and a poetry slam tournament.
Bugs, Bones and Botany
Explore and observe natural specimens to create detailed nature-based artworks, including animal skulls, insect specimens, plant materials and other natural materials. Work in pencil, pen, ink and watercolor on high-quality printmaking paper. This activity is open to any skill level.
Makerspace drop-in for all ages
What will you create? Bring your ideas and make them a reality with 3D printers, craft cutters, laser cutter, sewing machines, art supplies and more. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Children in fifth grade or under must be accompanied by an attentive adult or teen.

Birding for Beginners
Looking to hone your birding skills? Want to learn ways to attract more birds to your outdoor space? Join Nature Nerd Expeditions for an afternoon with the birds. In this adult birding class you will learn I.D. tips and tricks that'll help you identify a bird faster and more accurately. You will also learn some basic landscaping and feeding tips that'll help you attract more bird species to your outdoor space.

Kids Junk Orchestra players make rhythms and music on whatever surface they can think of — drums, bongos, buckets, body percussion, pots, pans, and buckets!

To attend this program, you need to have basic computer skills and know how to use a computer with a mouse. If you are new to computers, entry-level computer classes and one-on-one assistance are available at the library.

Juneteenth: Folk Songs and Stories from the Rural South
Newel Briggs sings folk songs accompanied by his guitar, mandolin and banjo. Raised by his grandparents, the first people in his family to be born free, Newel’s grandma sang songs such as “Loop de Loo,” “Miss Mary Mac,” “Ham Bone” and “Shortnin’ Bread.” Learn about the history behind the songs and the evolution of African American music through his stories.
