East County Library history

East County Library will start serving patrons in east Multnomah County in May 2026. The architects who worked on the building were Holst Architecture, and Adjaye Associates contributed through the design development phase. Before East County Library opened, library patrons in this area were served through Gresham Library, permanently closing March 27.

Milestones

2026 East County Library will open May 16, 2026. Notable features include a large auditorium, a rooftop terrace, an audiovisual studio, two sensory rooms, secured indoor and outdoor spaces for families, a teen room, and a collection of nearly 200,000 different library materials.

2024–2025 Construction continued on East County Library. 

2023 A groundbreaking ceremony for East County Library was held on July 12, 2023. Construction began in August 2023.

2022 In July 2022, the library purchased the Gresham City Hall Park and Ride site (1297 NW Eastman Pkwy, Gresham), for construction of a new library, which was later given the name East County Library. 

2020 In November 2020, Multnomah County voters approved a $387 million capital bond to build and transform library buildings across the county. This provided the funds to build the future East County Library.
