Navajo String Games and Winter Stories

周六 12月 13
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Join artist Lorne James for a session bringing families and community together to learn, play, and share stories, just as these traditions have been passed down for generations in Navajo culture.

You'll learn why winter is the special time for these traditions and hear stories of Na’ashjé’ii Asdzáá (Spider Woman) and the lessons she shares about creativity, patience, and community. Everyone will measure and make their own string loop — learning by watching, doing, and helping each other! We’ll explore several named Navajo string patterns, learning through demonstration and stories.

Lorne James is Navajo: Salt People Clan, Towering House People Clan.
