Library will gain new paint, carpeting and furniture

PORTLAND, Ore.–June 12, 2023
Gregory Heights Library closes to the public beginning July 20 to complete a series of bond-funded improvements. Project teams expect the work to last until winter 2023.

Multnomah County Library is hard at work to build, expand and renovate library spaces for the public as a result of the voter-approved 2020 Library building bond. This year, the library system will see a dramatic reinvention by building and expanding five libraries and a series of refresh projects to libraries across the system, requiring a series of temporary library closures.

The work at Gregory Heights is part of the refresh projects, providing smaller but still vital upgrades to 10 libraries.

New features will include:

  • Fresh paint and new carpet
  • New comfortable seating
  • Updated technology and faster internet
  • Improved shelf height and orientation to create more space for people and better sightlines
  • Automated material handling to increase the efficiency of checking in and sorting books
  • Planned work (Roof maintenance, exterior paint, etc.) that is not bond-funded

“Multnomah County Library’s refresh projects ensure important upgrades reach every location,” said Vailey Oehlke, Director of Libraries. “We can’t wait for patrons to experience the excitement of Gregory Heights with a fresh, new look. And, as always, we appreciate the community’s patience and flexibility as we update your libraries.”

During construction, the library encourages patrons to use the many online services available and visit nearby libraries:
Hollywood Library: 4040 NE Tillamook Street
Belmont Library: 1038 SE Cesar Estrada Chavez Blvd

The library will share additional updates about services at library construction closures
