Library will gain new paint, carpeting and furniture
PORTLAND, Ore.–June 12, 2023
Gregory Heights Library closes to the public beginning July 20 to complete a series of bond-funded improvements. Project teams expect the work to last until winter 2023.
Multnomah County Library is hard at work to build, expand and renovate library spaces for the public as a result of the voter-approved 2020 Library building bond. This year, the library system will see a dramatic reinvention by building and expanding five libraries and a series of refresh projects to libraries across the system, requiring a series of temporary library closures.
The work at Gregory Heights is part of the refresh projects, providing smaller but still vital upgrades to 10 libraries.
New features will include:
- Fresh paint and new carpet
- New comfortable seating
- Updated technology and faster internet
- Improved shelf height and orientation to create more space for people and better sightlines
- Automated material handling to increase the efficiency of checking in and sorting books
- Planned work (Roof maintenance, exterior paint, etc.) that is not bond-funded

During construction, the library encourages patrons to use the many online services available and visit nearby libraries:
Hollywood Library: 4040 NE Tillamook Street
Belmont Library: 1038 SE Cesar Estrada Chavez Blvd
The library will share additional updates about services at library construction closures.
