I’ll admit it. I was once a reluctant reader. In high school the only thing that I read were Cliff Notes. My love for reading was ignited while I was in college. I took courses with names like "African-American Literature" and "Women's Literature." After years of being told to read books, that all seemed to taste the same, I was suddenly introduced to books with a variety of wonderful flavors. Decades later, and I've been transformed into what can best be described as a book hoarder.
My go-to reading choices are graphic novels and teen fiction. I'm drawn to dystopian stories, horror, science fiction, and realistic but somewhat tragic stories. I can also get lost in visually amazing books. Books about art, fashion, graphic design, and interior decorating. For me, opening a good book is about collecting and savoring words, memories, stories, and images.
Outsiders and misfits. These are just a couple of words used to describe those of us who can relate to the feeling of not fitting in. These books and movies remind us that even if we don't fit in, we are not alone. This list was curated by guest teen blogger Téa.
