Loan periods, limits and returns

With a library card, you may check out most library items for 21 days. Most items can be renewed for another 21 days if no one else is waiting for them.

You may borrow a variety of materials from the library. You may have a total of 30 DVDs checked out at one time. You may have two Lucky Day items checked out at one time. You may have 20 e-books and downloadable audiobooks checked out at one time in OverDrive. You may borrow up to 10 items each month from Hoopla Digital. Streaming music from Hoopla Digital is available for seven days and video is available for three days. You may borrow up to 6 items each month from Kanopy. Streaming video from Kanopy is available for three days.

Because there many types of media and media players, and library items are heavily used, the library cannot be responsible for any damage to personal equipment.

Return items to any Multnomah County Library location. All libraries have book drops and materials can be returned seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Items that are returned after the due date may be charged a fine.

Placing a hold

You can place a hold on an item to have it delivered to your local library. You can have up to 20 physical items and 20 digital items on hold at one time. The help section on borrowing has more information about placing, suspending and cancelling holds. Suspended holds will continue to move up the waiting list for that title, but it will not be delivered until you make it active again.

Books by Mail

Your library is as close as your mailbox with Multnomah County Library's Books by Mail service. Videos, books and more can be sent directly to your doorstep for $3 per item.

Interlibrary Loan

If the item you are looking for is not owned by the Multnomah County Library system, it may be possible to get it from another library system through the library's Interlibrary Loan service.
