I love nonfiction books that tell stories of parallel events that collide, often tragically. A couple of my favorites are Hellhound on His Trail by Hampton Sides and Erik Larson’s Dead Wake. I’m also fond of adventure travel like Barbara Savage’s Miles from Nowhere and Voyage of a Summer Sun by Robin Cody.
When it comes to fiction, I enjoy stories set during times of conflict and war which bring out the worst and the best in people: Island of a Thousand Mirrors by Nayomi Munaweera and Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie are two I think are really great.
Recently, I’ve been enjoying a break from my usual fare and have read a couple of well-written and compelling memoirs: Famous Father Girl by Jamie Bernstein, daughter of composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein; and Proud by Ibitaj Muhammad, bronze medalist in the 2016 Olympic women’s saber competition.
I look forward to helping you discover great things to read, watch and listen to!
