With the publication of his first novel (Nineteen Seventy Four) in 1999, British writer David Peace has been messing with the classic crime genre - disrupting plot, fragmenting character and narration, using historical events to expand on power and its forms of abuse. Most of Peace's novels render a world where the political is always in bed with corruption. Obviously inspired by James Ellroy and his fraught relation to LA, Peace's work is similarly bleak, though quintessentially British.

Each of these titles is the first book in a series about a brilliant British detective solving crime.
