Is your class signed up for Summer Reading?
Each year, teachers may sign up their students in grades K-11 for Summer Reading while school is still in session. If you teach at one of the following districts, your students are already set to go: PPS, David Douglas, Parkrose, Centennial, Reynolds, Gresham-Barlow, and Corbett.
Last year over 110,000 youth participated in Summer Reading - of those, over 81,000 signed up through their schools and started summer vacation with a Summer Reading gameboard in hand. By signing up students through schools, we accomplish two objectives:
We reach all students, regardless of economic or family situation, encourage them to read over the summer and let them know about the free resources available through their libraries.
We reinforce the message that reading for pleasure over summer break is critically important for success in school.
As you know, reading over summer break goes a long way toward maintaining reading skills so that students return in September ready to pick up where they left off in June.
