PORTLAND, Ore. — March 28, 2017 — After conducting a national recruitment, Multnomah County Library Director Vailey Oehlke has named Terrilyn Chun as the library’s next deputy director. Chun, a 28-year Multnomah County Library staff member and Portland native, currently heads the division that coordinates public programs and outreach to older adults and vulnerable community members.
As deputy director, Chun will lead the library’s public services, including all 19 public library locations and divisions that serve patrons directly in child care centers, schools, retirement facilities, shelters and other settings. She holds a Bachelor of Arts-Communication from Mills College and a Master of Library Science from Emporia State University. She will begin this position May 1.
“Terrilyn brings an amazing depth of experience and perspective to the work of Multnomah County Library,” said Oehlke. “Public libraries reflect the people they serve and I will look to her to help lead our library’s work in ways that are inclusive, affirming and empower our community to learn and create.”
“I'm honored and excited to serve the library in this new role,” said Chun. “In a time of rapid change, the library must continually evolve in response to the changing demographics and needs of our community. I look forward to helping shape programs and services that will have the greatest and most positive impact on the lives of the people we serve.”
