PORTLAND, OR – Commissioner Lonnie Roberts announced that the Board of County Commissioners voted today to direct County staff to begin lease negotiations with four developers/property owners of potential sites for the new Troutdale Library. They are:
- Regency Centers (Cherry Park Market site)
- Alex Mauck of Pacific Pioneer Real Estate Inc. (Gateway Estates, on 257th, next to medical and dental offices, a little north and kitty-corner to Reynolds High School)
- Neil Handy (Handy site, 146 W. Columbia River Hwy.)
- Dean Hurford (Gateway Corner, corner of 257th and Columbia River Hwy.)
The Cherry Park Market site is an existing space in the shopping center. The other three sites are greenfield sites, each of which would be developed as a mixed-use building with the library on the ground floor and commercial/retail space above.
“I know that a number of community residents will be disappointed that neither of the Troutdale Market Center sites has been chosen, but there just wasn't support on the part of the County Commissioners for either of those sites. There is considerable concern about the future of the Center, particularly since it has actually lost tenants in the past year. We don't want to have Troutdale's library located in a nearly vacant shopping center,” Commissioner Roberts said.
“I think that any of the other sites would make a fine library. County staff will be negotiating with more than one developer in order to develop the best deal for the County.”
