Getting started with Hoopla


Hoopla, a Netflix-like service for library card holders, is a way to stream and temporarily download movies, music, audiobooks, digital comics, and TV shows, on demand and for free through the library.

No queues. No late fees. Instant access. Automatic returns.

  • Limit: eight items a month, resets 1st of the month
  • Movies & TV: check out for  72 hours
  • Music albums: seven days
  • Audiobooks & comics: check out for 21 days

To access the Hoopla, you will need:

  • A valid library card.
  • Access to the Internet.
  • For mobile devices: download the free Hoopla Digital app for iOS or Android.
  • For computers, Hoopla will prompt you to download Widevine, a free video player plug-in, when you attempt to watch your first movie.
  • An email address to create an account to keep track of viewing history and monthly usage.

Can I use Hoopla in the library?

Yes! Stream movies and music on library computers or connect via the library's Wi-fi to your personal laptop or mobile device or on a Chromebook, available for checkout.

Can I use Hoopla offline?

Yes! Mobile devices and tablets can temporarily download hoopla content to enjoy when you are away from an internet connection.  You are given the option to download after you have borrowed a title. 

On iOS devices, simply tap the download icon at the bottom of the title information screen and wait until it says "Download Complete" before turning on Airplane Mode. 

For Android devices, the download option is the in the upper right hand corner of the title information screen, and simply says "DOWNLOAD" — the rest of the process is the same.

Where do I find my movie or album once I download it?

On mobile devices, open the Hoopla menu and find your checked out item under Borrowed. Choose your item then play!

Can I borrow a TV show’s entire season?

No, each episode of a show counts as one item checked out toward the monthly eight item limit.

Can I borrow an entire music album?

Yes, each music album counts as one item checked out toward the monthly eight item limit. Tracks do not checkout out individually.

Does the mobile app include the same content as Hoopla on a computer?


Technical Requirements

Hoopla is supported by devices that run iOS 8 and above and Android OS 4.1x and above and most major up-to-date browsers. This also includes the Nook HD and HD+ tablets. The hoopla digital app is also now compatible with 7" and 8.9" Kindle Fire HDX tablets. You can download the app through the Amazon Appstore on your Kindle Fire HDX tablet. You can watch Hoopla on your TV using Apple TV and Chromecast. At this time, hoopla is not available on game consoles, or Roku.

Streaming videos and music require an internet connection. Data rates may apply on smartphones and tablets.

Hoopla supports closed captioning of video content where available and/or required.
