Read The Oresteia by Aeschylus. In his trilogy of tragedies, The Oresteia, Aeschylus addresses the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos as they move from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institutions. The Oresteia is a compelling tragedy of the tensions between our obligations to family and to the laws binding us together in society.
