Nutritional Supplements, Benefit or Harm?

The overwhelming majority of older Americans take a multivitamin and mineral in the hopes of staving off the chronic diseases of aging and to increase their lifespan. Recent well documented evidence now questions this rationale and offers a new slant on whether taking supplements, particularly above the recommended daily allowances, does indeed offer the above protection. In fact, there is increasing evidence that they  may even be harmful. Understanding the origins of synthetic vitamins, the rationale for their use and the current scientific views on the risks involved in chronic consumption of supplements, is information health conscious individuals should be aware of.
