Residents of Portland’s Human Solutions Family Center collaborated with photographer Rachel O’Rourke to share their stories. During a 10-month social practice project, they captured what it’s like to be forced from home following experiences like job loss and escape from domestic violence.
Through photos and maps, see what it takes to survive in our city as what some would call a “domestic refugee.”
This exhibition will run January 4 to February 25. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, February 3, from 2 to 4 pm with live music and a panel conversation.
*** In addition to the exhibition in the Collins Gallery, walk through the floors of Central Library to view the Sisters of the Road's “Through our Lens” - PhotoVoice exhibition. The original project, created in 2005, provided individuals experiencing houselessness with photography classes and black-and- white disposable cameras to document their lives in a way that many others never see or consider.
Made possible in part from a grant by Regional Arts and Culture Council.
