Juneteenth: Words Along the Way

Juneteenth 1900 in Texas [courtesy of Austin Public Library]

On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union soldiers brought Texans the news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Juneteenth, the observance of that date, has become a national celebration of freedom.  Join us on the North Portland lawn as we celebrate Juneteenth with words and music under the skies.
