Boom Arts presents an evening with internationally acclaimed Chilean puppet theatre company Silencio Blanco. Come watch a short documentary on how the puppet play was created and learn what inspired the artist to create this deeply moving, hauntingly gorgeous puppet play about a Chilean miner and his wife.
Chiflón, el Silencio del Carbón (The Silence of Coal), based on a novella and developed through the company’s residency in the Chilean mining village of Lota, is a modern tragedy: a fable about hope, loss, and love, set in a contemporary context of poverty, risk, and exploitation. Silencio Blanco’s perfectly crafted, faceless white papier mâché puppets wordlessly navigate their tiny, simply and beautifully rendered world.
The puppet play will be showing at Reed College on March 8 & 9.
