Next February, Multnomah County Library will launch Everybody Reads 2018, the library’s 16th annual community reading project, with Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West.
Multnomah County Library’s 2017 Summer Reading Program begins Friday, June 16, when kids of all ages can sign up at any neighborhood library.
After conducting a national recruitment, Multnomah County Library Director Vailey Oehlke has named Terrilyn Chun as the library’s next deputy director. Chun, a 28-year Multnomah County Library staff member and Portland native, currently heads the division that coordinates public programs and outreach to older adults and vulnerable community members.
In the interest of public safety, Multnomah County Library must remove two stately American Elm trees in front of Central Library, at 801 SW 10th Ave. The City of Portland determined the trees to be “dying” and “dangerous” and ordered their removal after a winter weather event in January resulted in the failure of a primary limb on one of the trees.

Multnomah County Library has received the highest rating possible — five stars — in Library Journal’s 2014 Index of Public Library Service, which identifies the top U.S. libraries each year.
On Sept. 15, the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission voted to approve a $300,000, three-year Community Access Capital grant for Multnomah County Library to begin creating a makerspace. The Library Foundation has committed to raise additional funding to make this makerspace possible for the Rockwood community.

Following that, Senator Wyden will host a roundtable discussion on the subject of net neutrality with members of the local technology start-up community and public library leaders. Members of the media are invited to attend.
