Play and learning go hand in hand. Join other families in a fun playtime at the library with books, toys, music, and all the room you need to learn through play. As Mr. Rogers said, "... for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."

One-year-olds (with a favorite adult) enjoy songs, movement activities, rhymes, books and playtime. This action-packed program engages new walkers in language-based activities. Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

The Black, African, and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their favorite adult/family members). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement activities in a positive and affirming online environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Play and learning go hand in hand. While our storytimes are on break, join other families for a fun playtime (for ages birth - 1) with board books, toys, music, and all the room your baby needs to learn through play. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter, come join the fun as we learn together. All experience levels and ages welcome! Please bring your own supplies.

Virtual Tutoring is for Multnomah County students in grades K-12 who need support in language arts, math, science or social studies. 

We offer three terms a year, each running for 8 weeks.

The student’s weekly appointment will be for 30 minutes on Tuesdays, sometime between 4 and 6 pm. They will be assigned an exact timeslot and tutor prior to the start of the term. These remain the same for the entire term.

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Alliance of Therapy Dogs, Dove Lewis Portland Area Canine Therapy Teams, Paws for Love, and Pet Partners®.

Do you have knitting and/or crocheting projects that you’d love to get finished? Or new ones you want to start? Please join us on Tuesdays for yarn work and fun! All ages and abilities welcome.

Every participant (child, teen, or adult) must sign up in advance to reserve a spot. No library card required. All materials are provided. Registration opens three weeks in advance.

What will you create? Bring your ideas and make them a reality! Join us at the Rockwood Library makerspace to make something cool, learn a new skill, and meet friendly people.

Ofrecemos actividades que promueven la alfabetización temprana, leyendo libros, cantando, y jugando. La Hora de Cuentos virtual está diseñada para niños de edad preescolar y sus cuidadores. El programa es presentado en español y es transmitido a través de Zoom.
