The African and African American experience comes alive for children from birth to age 6 (with their adult). Have fun with books and stories, songs, and movement in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Attendance is limited and free tickets are available 15 minutes before storytime.

We're hosting movie night at University of Oregon Concordia pop-up library! Join us for this critically acclaimed, award winning, independent drama about a Texan mother and her rebellious teenage daughter as they prepare for the "Miss Juneteenth" pageant. The pageant prize is a full scholarship to a historically Black college or university. This is a beautiful film about legacies, and the paths we carve for a hopeful future.

Today, we're adorning ourselves in Freedom and celebrating heritage. In this craft, staff will lead children in making African style necklaces, while learning about the history of Juneteenth.

Join your Hollywood library Black Culture Library Advocates for painting, collages, stickers, and button making to celebrate Juneteenth! Supplies will be provided.

Have you ever stopped to watch those creatures that scurry around in your yard or fly past you? Those are bugs and insects, nature's tiny superheroes! For every one person on Earth, there are about 200 million bugs! They come in all colors and shapes, with some cool stories to tell.

Come learn how to make your own beaded bracelet, try free-style painting, and enjoy the experience of henna. Make connections with the community in Capitol Hill! All ages are welcome to this first-come, first-served event.

Culturally relevant and identity-supporting print-making night where adults who identify as Two-Spirit/LGBTQ+ can make pride bling with medallions, posters, flags, and learn more about local Two-Spirit resources.

Celebrate Juneteenth by watching film at the Rockwood Library! Where the Heart Is and Reviving the Black Head Nod by local photographer, filmmaker, and educator Elijah Hasan. Hasan has emerged as one of the region's most daring and innovative artists. His work knows no boundaries or genres, as he moves between documentary, experimental, and narrative filmmaking. Join us for this 1 hour screening, and staff-led discussion.

Stones, Bones, and Black-Eyed Peas presents: Juneteenth Food, Texas Style! Join chef and owner of Finer Things Events and Catering, Michelle Guinn, with her daughter, Sable Askew and take a trip back into history. Enjoy a cooking demonstration of Great Uncle Nolan’s all-meat Texas chili, red drink, and homemade vanilla ice cream celebrating freedom and foods cooked and beloved by African American culinary connoisseurs. 

It's Freedom Friday, and we're celebrating Juneteenth!

Today at Capitol Hill, staff will lead a special arts program to honor the season and teach kids the history of Juneteenth.

Join us this summer for a Black Storytime series celebrating African and African American heritage and culture! Children from birth to age 6 (with their favorite adult/family members) will have fun with books and stories, songs, a craft, and movement activities in a positive and affirming environment. Black Storytime builds language and literacy skills your child needs to be ready for kindergarten.

Please join us at the new Holgate Library for the ribbon cutting and Lion / Dragon dance to open the first new building of the library building project! Follow the dancers through the building to ensure good luck and fortune, and stay for the day-long celebration. 

Two talented Indigenous hoop dancers will share their culture and skills through the art of hoop dance, followed by a Q & A session. Hoop dancing originated as a healing ceremony and continues to be practiced and shared as a form of Indigenous tradition, artistic expression and cultural sharing opportunity. Hoops are utilized to make formations that honor various animals and nature, as well as new and creative designs.

Join us for a cultural performance representing Mexican folklore dance. You will enjoy several styles of dance from different regions of Mexico accompanied by a singer. All ages are welcome.
