Zilla Sake House
http://www.zillasake.com/
1806 N.E. Alberta St. [Albina]
503.336.4104
Gothic Tokyo meets Alberta funk. When the rains come you can pretend you're in Blade Runner. The sake menu is 3 inches thick, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They'll even tailor a sampler to your particular taste. Are you floral or woodsy?
Anna Bannana's

8716 N. Lombard Ave. [St. Johns]
A long-time Portland favorite has opened a new location. Everything you know you love, only in St. Johns.
Bean
1465 N.E. Prescott St. Suite B [Albina]
503.288.8784
The long, uncaffeinated stretch of Prescott Street is newly punctuated by this stylish and comfortable cafe. Espresso and Wi-Fi of course, and near the #8 bus stop.
Daily Market & Cafe

5250 N.E. Halsey St. [Hollywood]
503.546.1833
A new-ish addition to the neighborhood, you can pick up your groceries at the market or stop in for breakfast and lunch at the cafe. The produce is local, the food is good and the atmosphere is very welcoming.
The Florida Room
435 N. Killingsworth [North Portland]
503.287.5658
Known for their Sunday morning services and stellar jukebox, this bar is located across the street from the North Portland Library. Maybe we should build a tunnel.
Gladstone Coffee
3813 S.E. Gladstone St. [Holgate]
503.775.1537
Although Portland is a city rife with coffee shops, some neighborhoods don't have such great coverage. Creston-Kenilworth residents can breathe a sigh of relief; there is now a relaxing coffee house right in the center of their 'hood. Gladstone Coffee offers big soft couches, homemade sweet treats, and of course, coffee that is taken seriously by staff and patrons alike. Thank goodness.
Sultan Cafe

1500 N.W. 18th St., Suite 101 [Northwest]
503.227.6466
Out riding her bike one day, intrepid librarian Jennifer passed by this small cafe located in a strip mall of sorts and saw two guys smoking a hookah in the front window - suffice it to say she was intrigued and she stopped in. The food was excellent (try the baba ghanouj!), they have free Wi-Fi (and if you don't own a laptop, they have a Mac you can use), and of course there are the hookahs which you can try there, or purchase for home use.
