First off, it has a Bike-Thru Window - awesome! The food is amazingly delish, they make their own ice cream, and they are super friendly. We really can't say enough nice things about Little Red Bike. It's small, so expect a wait on weekends.

Here you'll find fabulous but inexpensive pastries, savory and sweet. Pecan cookies, sweet bean filled pastries, bao (a steamed roll filled with meat) and pandan leaf bread are among the highlights. Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches (crispy bread and pickled vegetables, yum!) are available too, but you have to ask for them, they're not on the menu. An Xuyen doesn't have chairs or tables, but if you're ready to take your treats home, this is a bakery you shouldn't miss.

Food carts seem un-chic, by nature. They're for hurried, furtive snacks, gobbled down while crouched on a park bench or walking quickly along the street. Not so Flavour Spot – here the atmosphere is gracious, the service friendly, and the food delicious. Waffles are baked to order and served sweet or savory, vegan, vegetarian, or meaty. Try the veggie sausage and maple butter, the fluffer nutter (your choice of three kinds of peanut butter!), or the whipped honey toppings. And don't forget, the espresso is delicious.

Oregon is great in many ways, but it is hard to get a good, fresh, New York-style bagel here. But a brand-new bakery aims to solve that problem! Kettleman's bagels are made in the classic style – the dough is shaped, allowed to rise, given a short bath in boiling water, and then baked on a stone hearth. Yum!

From the "patron saint of sweet" comes this delectable little bakery that specializes in, you guessed it, cupcakes! They come in bite size and regular – bite size is nice because you don't have to worry about ordering and eating too many! But check the website because the different cupcakes are assigned different days of the week, and you don't want to miss your favorites!

Scavone's is a family joint – classic diner crossed with neighborhood eatery – they serve up lunch counter favorites, home-style Italian food, milkshakes, and they have a full bar. Owner Jon Finely named the restaurant in honor of his grandfather, Nick Scavone, who operated a pharmacy at the same location until the 1970s, and the current incarnation of Scavone's is decorated with photographs and memorabilia from the restaurant's pharmacy days.

Tad's is on the east bank of the beautiful Sandy River, on the scenic highway between downtown Troutdale and the Columbia Gorge waterfalls, so it's in a prime spot to lure in Portlanders on their way home from a day's hiking and sightseeing. The diner retains much of its 1930s charm (though mod items like Pesto Chicken have been added to the menu), with knotty pine interiors and red vinyl upholstery for the chairs and booths. Whether you're on a mission for stewed chicken and dumplings and retro decor, or just hungry on the way home from a day trip, Tad's has what you need.
