Do you want to take advantage of healthy & affordable alternatives to driving? Learn how to make your commute safer and more enjoyable when walking, biking, skateboarding, or riding a train or bus.

Activities
All activities will take place behind Holgate Library
- Bike Safety Checks: Brian Lacy of BIKEmpowered will lead a group of teens in providing basic bike safety checks and we will be hosting a bike rodeo for kids up to 12 years of age.
- Skateboarding Basic Demo: Skaters from Portland Parks and Recreation Skatepark Program will demonstrate basic skateboarding skills and safety.
- Bike Rodeo: Friends of Holgate Bikes Lanes will help reinforce bike safety skills with 4-6 activity stations for riders ages 4 to 12 years of age. Made possible by the Portland Bureau of Transportation's Safe Routes to School program. Participants must complete and return this waiver and release form at this event - waivers will also be available on site.
- Bike Donation and Adoption Drive: Bikes For Humanity PDX will have a variety of bicycles available including road bikes, mountain bikes, commuter bikes, cruisers, and BMX bikes. Volunteers will assist with your bike donations and adoptions between 12pm - 5pm in the northeast parking lot. All donations will receive tax exemption donation receipts. Participants must complete and return this waiver and release form at this event - waivers will also be available on site.
- Helmet Giveaway: The Portland Bureau of Transportation will be giving away bike helmets while supplies last.
Workshops
All activities will take in Holgate Library's Meeting Room - please lock up bikes in front of library
- 2 p.m. – Bike Commute 101: The Bicycle Transportation Alliance's bike commute workshop is a great first step towards bike commuting. It's also a place for seasoned bicyclists to learn more, share what they know about commuting with new riders, and find out who in their workplace is interested in biking to work. Online registration is required for this 2 p.m. session.
- 3 p.m. & 4 p.m. – Bike Bucket Building Workshops: Presented by the Portland Bureau of Transportation - Find out how to conveniently transport groceries, packages, and kids with your bicycle. The session concludes with you building your very own "bike bucket" that fits on a bike (rear) rack. Online registration is required for the 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. sessions.

- Bikes For Humanity PDX: B4HPDX is a Portland-based community service project that provides affordable refurbished bicycles, bicycle repair classes, workshop space and volunteering opportunities to the public. B4HPDX volunteers catalog and refurbish donated bikes, and offer them for adoption locally – ask about becoming a volunteer.
- East Portland in Motion – Portland Bureau of Transportation: The Portland Bureau of Transportation is developing a 5-year implementation strategy for active transportation projects east of 82nd Avenue, to be completed by the summer of 2011. East Portland in Motion is gathering information from the East Portland community and analyzing project data to develop recommendations about which projects to build first to improve conditions for walking, biking, and taking transit and would like to hear from you.
- Mt Scott Community Center – Portland Parks and Recreation: Portland Parks & Recreation's goal is sustaining a healthy park and recreation system that makes Portland a great place to live, work & play. The Mt. Scott Community Center includes an indoor basketball court and swimming pool, fitness room, gymnasium and much more – find out how to become a member.
- Pedestrian and Driver Safety – Portland Bureau of Transportation: Pick up walking maps, pedestrian safety flashing strobes, information about recent changes to Oregon crosswalk laws, brochures about buckling up yourself and your children, tips for sharing the road, reflective I BREAK FOR PEOPLE bike stickers, I SHARE THE ROAD bumper stickers, and more.
- The Portland Society: The Portland Society is a nonprofit business alliance for women who are passionate about business and bicycling in Portland. They work together to support each other through referral, education, and community. They grow their businesses while making Portland a better, more livable place.
- Safe Routes to School – Portland Bureau of Transportation: Portland Safe Routes to School is a partnership of the City of Portland, schools, neighborhoods, community organizations and agencies that advocates for and implements programs that make walking and biking around our neighborhoods and schools fun, easy, safe and healthy for all students and families while reducing our reliance on cars.
- Transportation Options – Portland Bureau of Transportation: Transportation Options Division programs to reduce traffic congestion and pollution, while helping you save money and stay fit.
- TriMet: TriMet provides bus, light rail and commuter rail service in the Portland metro area. Their transportation options connect people with their community, while easing traffic congestion and reducing air pollution – making our region a better place to live.
